Why This Blog?

Why This Blog?
A writer writes for a sheer egoism. A desire to seem clever, to be talked about, to be remembered after deadth. - George Orwell, author of 1984 and Animal Farm, in his essay "Why I Write".

Hi, I'm nobody

Yes, I am nobody. At this moment.

I’ve been trying to make my own way in this world for a while, but I don’t know who I am or who I should become. And in the middle of nothing, an idea pops up—this blog.

This blog is where I want to start first, and I intend to start it with a simple word: “Why?”

Why this blog? And, why you have to read what I write?

But wait

Before heading to the answers, I wanna tell you a story.

As a kiddo born and grow up in this 21st century, I feel fascinated by how ideas and information are so contagious, like a deadly virus, thanks to globalization and technology. Simply reading a book, playing a podcast, watching a video, and BAM! CONGRATS! A new idea, a thing that was never there in your mind, has just been wired into your brain! And even more fortunate, I have chance to meet so many inspiring individuals, as well as experience new things on my own. All of these create some sort of identity, I would say, inside and outside me, and guide my thoughts and actions in this society.

And in these very specific and strange times, it is so much easier to speak up, and spread worth-sharing ideas.

And yes, this is def one of my purpose for starting this blog. To spread worth-sharing ideas.

I do this cause I believe in the power of staying curious, and critical, about the world, and ourselves. These days feel like everything is gone mad, and our brains just can’t get a grasp of what the hell is going on. And genetically, we humans tend to stay away from these uncomfortable situations for the sake of our comfort.

There is an illustration by Tim Urban from his blog Wait But Why, which describes society as a giant body, made of billions of single cells, and each of us is that single cell. When we are a single cell functioning inside a giant body, a society, it’s hard to understand and see that society in a broader view. And the harder it is to understand, the easier for some people to be ignorant about it, and for some other people, to exploit it for their own benefit.

It is more urgent than ever, to learn, and also unlearn, about the society. And this time, see it with cautious and critical thinking, to make a better decision in the future.

I want to use this blog as a means of sharing my ideas and discoveries about the world. It can be anything, ranging from science, art, to my personal essays and so on. This is my first time ever contributing to the writing pool, so I'm constantly learning to be unbiased, diving deep, and exposing myself to multiple viewpoints. And i welcome you to do so with this blog. I would be honored if you hold my writing, turn it this way or that way, think about every perspective, and make it something new of your own.

My most ambitious goals, are bringing more outlooks to you, and connecting you with open-minded and inquisitive community. And from then, I hope it can shape your future actions with your society.

Please suit yourself. Grab some coffee and a cookie. And there we go.

Your buddy,

tam
